Vijayawada, Jan 2 (UNI) Title holder Kannur and last year's runner-up Mahatma Gandhi universities of Kerala cruised into the league phase of the women South-West Zone Inter University Vollebyall Tournament here today.
In the quarter-final matches, Kannur university defeated Bharathiar university of Tamil Nadu in straight sets 25-9, 25-20 and 25-14, while M G university wrapped up the match by outplaying Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior 26-24, 25-13 and 25-19.
Calicut university beating Kerala university 25-17, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22 and Madras university defeating Mysore university 25-23, 15-25, 25-10, 12-25 and 15-11, booked their berth in the league round.
In the league fixture, all the four teams would play their opponents three times each. The winner and runner-up would be declared by taking into account the points secured in the league phase matches, tomorrow.
The tournament organisers announced that these four universities were qualified for the All India inter university Volleyball Championship, expected to begin at Kolkata on January 11.
