Islamabad, Jan 2: French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner today called on Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and expressed solidarity with the country in its fight against terrorism. Mr Kouchner, who is here to express solidarity of his government and people with Pakistan over the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, acknowledged the country's efforts, particularly that of President Musharraf towards fighting extremism and terrorism.
The Minister extended support of his government to Pakistan in fighting terrorism and said the European Union was keen on the holding of the coming general election in Pakistan, but pointed that it was for country's Election Commission to decide the date, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported. General (retd) Musharraf reiterated his commitment to hold a free, fair and transparent poll.
Mr Kouchner also discussed the situation in Afghanistan and along the Pak-Afghan border in the backdrop of President Hamid Karzai's meeting with President Musharraf last week.
