Kolkata, Jan 2 (UNI) The West Bengal government has decided to retain the CRPF at Nandigram and was not withdrawing the force from the place, Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy said today.
Mr Roy told newspersons at the State Secretariat that the Centre would take the final decision regarding the CRPF's stay at Nandigram.
He said besides Nandigram CRPF was deployed on both sides of Khejuri and there was no need for additional deployment of security forces in the place.
''Law and order is improving in Nandigram and the developmental works are on with people's participation,'' Mr Roy said.
Mr Roy also informed that it had been decided to give compensation of Rs five lakh each to the families of the victims who were killed in police firing on March 14 in Nandigram.
