Mumbai, Jan 2: Taking cognizance of the photographs published in a national newspaper, showing two girls being molested by a group of people in this metropolis, the police have started the process of registering an FIR.
The two girls were allegedly molested outside a prominent hotel here in the city, by a group of New Year revellers. The police had, thus far, not registered an FIR, since no complaint had been lodged with them in this regard. ''When nobody has come forward to lodge a complaint, how can the police initiate any action?'' a top police official had earlier questioned.
The victim or somebody should come forward to lodge a complaint, he had said.
Later, in the afternoon, the police began recording the statements of the two photographers who had clicked the pictures.
Once the statements were recorded, a formal FIR would be registered, sources said.
