New Delhi, Jan 2 (UNI) Delhi Finance and Power Minister A K Walia today said he had decided to constitute committees on power problems in all Assembly constituencies.

Addressing a high level weekly meeting on power, Dr Walia said the ten-member committees, to be chaired by MLAs concerned, would include two representatives of Distcoms with their Business Managers concerning billing system and infrastructure development.

The other seven members would be nominated from the local RWAs, Trade Bodies and other social organisations.

The MLAs, running across party lines, had, during a short duration discussion in recently-concluded Assembly session, demanded the constitution of the committees with their active involvement to overcome difficulties coming in the billing system and other related problems.

Addressing the meeting, also attended by the Secretary (Power), the Director(Commercial), Delhi Transco and senior officers of Distcoms, Dr Walia expressed confidence that these committees would be able to review the billing system apart from looking into serious complaints.

The committees would also be asked to expedite infrastructure development.

It would meet every month to streamline entire functioning of the Distcoms up to the maximum satisfaction of consumers.

In the meeting, Dr Walia reiterated that Distcoms must avoid unreasonable power cuts, which result in harassment to sincere consumers.

He also asked the Distcoms to bring substantial reduction in power cuts.

The Distcoms have also been asked to send SMS on power shedding to all elected representatives in the Capital city. Dr Walia has further instructed Distcoms to concentrate on infrastructural development, which would go a long way in bringing about an improvement in power supply.

They have been asked to submit a list of those transformers, which are becoming cause of frequent power cuts in the locality.

The list should include solid reasons and explanations.

It was reported in the meeting that around 25 lakh new meters have been installed. NDPL has yet to change 87,000 meters whereas BRPL has to change 2.75 lakh meters and BYPL to change 1.50 lakh meters.
