He also said the AICC had given indications that the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, along with other leaders of the party, would campaign in the poll-bound states of the region.
While claiming that the Congress would come back to power in Meghalaya, Mr Barman alleged that the CPI(M)-led Left Front government in Tripura had ruined the state where corruption and malpractices had become the order of the day.
Accusing the CPI(M) leaders of unleashing a reign of terror against women and Opposition members in Tripura, he also demanded deployment of more Central paramilitary forces to ensure peaceful elections in the state.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy announced that his party would contest the Assembly elections and urged the non-Left political parties to join hands to form a Trinamool Congress-led secular democratic front.
