Record 252 cases decided by Lok Adalat in Srinagar in a single day
Srinagar , Jan 1 (UNI) A record 252 cases were amicably decided in a single day by a Lok Adalat held in the saddar court premises here, an official spokesman said today.
An official spokesman said the adalat held under the supervision of chairman District Legal Services Authority took up 632 cases of different nature.
Later the adalat amicably decided 252 cases on the spot.
A fine of over Rs 1.26 lakh was also realized in various criminal compoundable cases, official spokesman added.
Similar Lok Adalat are being held in other district courts across the valley where cases, particularly relating to road accidents, were being amicably settled. This, official sources said, if has helped to settle cases pending for years.
Official sources said that there are more than fourth thousand cases pending in the Jammu and Kashmir courts including both the wings--Srinagar and Jammu-- high court.
The courts in the state have received 19,000 fresh petitions and other cases during the year 2007.
