Kolkata, Jan 1: The CPI(M) is exploring the possibility of forming a third front even though there was no immediate scope for building up a force alternative to the Congress-led UPA and BJP-led NDA, veteran marxist leader Jyoti Basu said today.
''We have been in talks with other parties and will discuss the issue in our coming party Congress. Let us see what happens next. But now there is no possibility of forming a third front immediately as an alternative to the United Progressive Alliance and the National Democratic Alliance,'' he told newspersons after attending the party's state secretariat meeting here. He termed the present political situation in the country as 'complicated'. ''We are giving outside support to the UPA government at the Centre as also taking support from them. But I don't know how long this will continue,'' he explained.
