Nashik, Jan 1 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and former Union Petroleum Minister Ram Naik today said 2008 will be a year of change and NDA will form the government at the Centre under the leadership of Mr L K Advani.
Speaking to reporters here today, Mr Naik said, ''Congress, which came to power with the slogan 'Congress Ka Haath, Aam Admi Ke Saath'', has deceived the common man as the government could not control the rising prices of consumer goods and food items. This and other issues affected the performance of Congress in the recent Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections.'' ''It is an indication of the growing support of people for the BJP. Considering this, 2008 will prove year of change and NDA will be able to form a government at the Centre under the leadership of Mr L K Advani,'' Mr Naik said.
In May 2004, during the NDA Government's rule, the Consumer Price Index of Mumbai was 428, while during Congress-led UPA Government's regime it rose to 442 in June 2005 and to 468 in June 2006. In June 2007, it reached to 496 and further rose to 508 in November 2007, Mr Naik said, and added that how the common man would bear the burden of this 18.7 per cent rise in the Consumer Price Index.
He also blamed the UPA Government for delaying the submission of proposals made by the Restructure Commission led by Justice Kuldeep Singh to the President regarding restructuring of Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly constituencies.
He further said that the UPA Government should clear the way for holding forthcoming Lok Sabha elections according to the proposed constituencies, adding that otherwise, it would be seen as if the Government was creating a hurdle in the democratic process of elections.
Lok Sabha elections will be held either in 2008 or in March 2009, Mr Naik said.
