By Staff

Jaipur, Jan 1 (UNI) Nine time champion and last two years runners up Kerela shocked defending champion Railways in a ding dong battle by 3-2 and annexed the women's title in the 56th Senior National Volleyball Championship at the SMS Indoor hall here this evening.

Kerela captain Ashwani S Kumar and Gisha Thomas displayed terrific form as their power packed smashes and the deceptive drops had no answer. They dominated from the second set by the fourth set Railways women were badly demoralise that resulted into their poor showing in crucial and fouth and fifth set. Kerela ultimately avanged their defeat in 103 minutes winning by 25-27, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-10.

The match could have taken a turn when Kerela were leading by 24-22 in the fourth set but a this juncture Railway Shibi KJ served poorly at the net, which saw Kerela level the score 2-2. Had Railways scored at that point of time, their could have been a chance of them to stretch the set for a possible opportunity of turning the table. It was almost of one-sided affair in the last set for Kerela.
