CBI arrests three Central Excise officials for seeking graft
New Delhi, Jan 1 (UNI) The CBI today arrested three officials of the Central Excise Department and raided their residences for seeking bribe from a private firm for favourable inspection report.
A CBI spokesperson here said Assistant Commissioner Subhash Chand, Inspector Hari Chand and Superintendent Sanjay Kumar Singh of the Central Excise Department, MOD-VIII Division, were arrested for demanding Rs 10 lakh from J V Industries for submitting a favourable inspection report, following a search of its premises.
The search was conducted by the Anti Evasion Cell of the Central Excise Department.
The CBI registered a case following a complaint by the firm.
The spokesperson said the CBI's anti-corruption branch laid a trap today and caught red handed the Inspector and the Superintendent while demanding and accepting a part payment of Rs 2.5 lakh towards the bribe.
He said searches were being conducted at the official and residential premises in Delhi of both the accused.
The spokesperson said the investigations further revealed that Narain, the supervisory officer of the accused officials, also had a share in the bribe. Accordingly, searches were being conducted at his residences also, he added.
