Auto lifter gang busted: 2 arrested, 6 cars seized
New Delhi, Jan 1 (UNI) A gang of auto lifters, active in the NCR region, was busted today with the arrest of two persons and five Maruti 800 cars, one Santro car and three CNG kits were recovered from their possession, police said.
On a tip-off that Arun Kumar (41) and Dinesh Kumar Sharma (45), involved in lifting Maruti cars and removing their CNG kits, would visit the Lodhi Colony area, the police team apprehended them while they were going by a Santro car stolen from Hauz Khas in September last year.
Police also recovered a loaded country-made pistol along with an extra live cartridge from them.
During interrogation, it was revealed that both of them used to remove CNG kits after stealing cars and sell each kit in the black market for Rs 20,000.
The two also admitted of having stolen kits from more than ten cars which they had lifted from Delhi and Noida in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
Arun Kumar, hailing from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, was MSc in Biology from Aligarh Muslim University. He was earlier arrested in 1992 for scooter theft and later in 2005 for his involvement in a robbery of Rs 12 lakhs.
Dinesh Kumar also hailed from Aligarh, police added.
