After minus 7.2, it was minus 4, day temp remain above normal
Srinagar, Jan 1 (UNI) After experiencing coldest night of the season so far with mercury dipping to minus 7.2 degree Celsius yesterday, people in the Kashmir valley had some respite from the chill after the minimum temperature was up by three degrees this morning.
However, people in Leh, Kargil and Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, continue to shiver with bitting cold during nights but enjoy the day due to above normal temperature.
The minimum temperature was up due to cloudy sky as Western Disturbances entered the region from Arabian sea, a weather office spokesman said.
He said the minimum temperature which was minus 7.2 degrees yesterday, was minus 4 degrees today, still two degrees below normal.
The day temperature, recorded at 8.8 degrees, was still four degrees above normal.
The lowest minimum temperature of minus 12.8 degrees was recorded on December 13, 1964 when water in the Dal lake was totally frozen.
However, people in Leh, Kargil and Drass continued to shiver after the temperature dipped to minus 11.8 degrees C to minus 15 degrees.
