A new directorate set up in CBDT

New Delhi, Jan 1 (UNI) The Union government today announced setting up of a new directorate in the Central Board of Direct Taxes(CBTD)to develop and design strategic human resource plans,policies and processes aligned to the goal and vision of the income tax department.

The Directorate of Income Tax, Human Resource Development (HRD), Finance Minister P Chidambaram said, will also aim at ensuring optimal resource mobilisation and delivery of tax payer services.

While making projections of human resource requirements for the income tax department, the new directorate will assess and determine job requirements, job profiles and skills needed for various jobs in the department.

The directorate will assist the CBTD in designing and implementing policies for systematic career progression. It will also operate a human resource information system by accessing database maintained by the Board.

The HRD directorate will also assist the Board in developing and implementing proper human resource development policies, including those relating to recruitment,promotioins, performance appraisals,transfer and succession plans, the Minister said.

The new directorate will design a scientific and objective performance management system to foster accountability and develop a scientific scheme for linking of rewards to performance, he said adding that it will identify training needs, formulate training policies and faciliate skill enhancement.

The directorate will foster international cooperation for incorporating administrative best practices in tax administration.
