2007: 25 gazetted officers caught red-handed by vigilance

Chandigarh Jan 1 (UNI) Punjab Vigilance Bureau registered 178 vigilance cases, involving 25 Gazetted Officers (GOs) and 111 Non-Gazetted Officers (NGOs) who were caught red handed while accepting bribe during the year 2007.

Besides, 39 criminal cases were also registered in which 17 Gazetted Officers, 55 Non-Gazetted Officers and 76 private people were involved. Thirteen cases of disproportionate assets were also registered involving four GOs and nine NGOs.

The Bureau has also registered 67 Vigilance enquiries in which 46 GOs, 46 NGOs and 18 private people were involved.

The Vigilance Bureau has submitted 'challans' pertaining to 196 vigilance cases to the courts in which 41 GOs, 238 NGOs and 48 private people were involved.

During this period 5 GOs, 56 NGOs and 6 private persons were convicted by various courts in 60 cases pertaining to Vigilance Bureau awarding imprisonment from one year to four years to the accused.
