Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 31 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party President Mayawati today said her Government would be the first State in the country to bring in reservation for the backward class in the Private Sector.

Addressing a mass gathering here, she said the Government would bring in ten per cent reservation each for the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, religious minorities and also economically backward section among the forward community.

''The BSP had written several letters to the Centre regarding reservations in the private sector. But till now this has not been looked into. The BSP Government will implement this in Uttar Pradesh,'' she said.

She also claimed that once the BSP comes to the power at Centre, it would amend the law to provide reservation for economically backward among the forward community. Though the Centre had been asked many times to amend the law to include this section in the reservation, nothing had been done till now, she alleged.

The wrong policies of the Centre had led to the increase in private sector, she said and added that the reservation should also be implemented in the private sector. The public sector companies and other sectors were now handed over to the private sector and it was a necessity that the downtrodden in the society got their due share, she added.

Ms Mayawati said her party would strive to bring in reservation in all the sectors.

Stating that Congress, BJP, CPI(M) and several other parties were part of the governance at the Centre, but had done nothing for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden, she said, it was imperative that BSP rules the destiny of the nation. BSP was the only party that stood for the poor, downtrodden and toiling masses, irrespective of caste, creed, community and religion, she asserted.

The Chief Minister said BSP is the poor man's party, unlike others which stood only for the rich. The BSP had always formulated policies for the poor whereas Congress, BJP and the Communists, among others, frames policies for the rich, she alleged.

The time had come for a social change and BSP alone can deliver social justice and enhance party's relevance, she added.
