Sangma seeks PM's intervention on Orissa violence
Shillong, Dec 31 (UNI) Former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma today sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention to restore normalcy in violence-hit Kandhamal district of Orissa where Christian community was recently attacked.
Urging the Prime Minister to direct the Union Home Minister and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to restore normalcy, the Nationalist Congress Party MP said merciless killings of Christians in that state has shocked the entire Christian community, particularly in the North East.
''The Government of Orissa should do everything possible to rehabilitate the affected people and also help rebuild the Churches, which have been burnt down,'' Mr Sangma said in his letter.
