Panaji, Dec 31 (UNI) Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today extended their warm greetings to the people on the New Year eve with a resolve to develop Goa into a model state Mr Jamir, in his message, has asked the people to renew their thoughts and work with unity and dedication to make the state and country more peaceful and prosperous.
''If we have to successfully fulfill common aims and objectives for the welfare of the society, it is essential that we subordinate our personal interests to larger societal and national goals,'' he said.
''It is on such seminal occasions that we should try to diffuse differences, forget bitterness and foster love and friendship between members of the society,'' the Governor added.
The Chief Minister, in a separate message, said the government was poised to meet the challenges of balanced growth and development for the continued prosperity of our vibrant state.
''The government will endeavour to sustain the enviable status of Goa as the ideal model state of India and strive to realise its dreams,'' Mr Kamat added.
Meanwhile, this major international tourist destination is abuzz celebrating the New Year eve with fun and frolic at its beach fronts, Security has been beefed up to ensure peace and tranquillity at all vulnerable points. Police is also keeping a vigil on the human and drug traffickers at pubs and joints known for 'Trance Music'.
Several cinema and corporate personalities including Shahrukh Khan have come here to take part in the midnight celebrations at different destinations in Goa.
Many popular musical bands such as Abbas Reunion from London have descended on Goan beaches to enthrall the audience.
Tourists had a hectic time on the tastefully illuminated cruise boats as they sped past the meandering river Mandovi amid playing of musical bands and pop music and dancing to their tunes.
