Mumbai,Dec 31 (UNI) Stung by a string of electoral reverses in 2007 veteran leaders of the Congress' state unit are planning an introspection meet here in mid January.
Party sources said that the 'Congress bachao chintan shibir' is being held in the backdrop of the State Assembly election scheduled for 2009. ''If the party leadership does not take corrective action in Maharashtra, the Congress is sure to lose its last bastion in the assembly elections'' the sources said.
According to them, the state Congress has no programmes and initiatives to galvanise the cadre and activate the grassroot level workers. They also feel that the party was drifting away from its ideologies and new entrants were being given more power. Indiscipline was growing within the party and the economic policies of the UPA government were not benefiting the party to ensure expansion of its mass base, they added.
