Chandigarh, Dec 30: The 'City Beautiful' will soon have a night Food Street on the pattern of food streets in Lahore and Islamabad to bring the regional delicacies in the limelight.
While addressing a press conference here yesterday City Mayor Harjinder Kaur said the Administration has decided to construct the night food street in sector 14 at an approximate cost of Rs 14 lakh.
Ms Kaur, recently elected member of the Mayors for Peace Forum by Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation Japan, said successfully holding of the All India Mayors Conference for the first time in the city had boosted the city's image.
Ms Kaur, whose term is nearing its end, highlighted that the city had undertaken many projects to develop it into a city at par with international mega-cities.
The Mayor said in this year the city had won many laurels at the national and international level. The city ranked as the cleanest and greenest city for the year-2007 by Org-AC Nelson Survey and had also got Excellence National Award for water supply and sewerage disposal.
Many hi-tech project undertaken during the year, include construction of Rs 42 crore multi - level parking, 'Automatic Laundry Marts', computarised automation of water works, a garbage processing unit, Bin Free Sector Scheme, idle truck parking and mechanical road sweeping.
The MCC has also undertaken work of strengthening and widening of existing roads in industrial area, augmenting street light and storm water drainage system, construction of parkings, development of public parks and modernising its fire service.
