LTTE looking at Tamil Nadu as a base: Jayalalithaa
Chennai, Dec 30 (UNI) AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today alleged that an alarming situation was now developing in the state where the banned LTTE was now looking at it as a base and all political parties, except hers, was prepared to roll out a red carpet welcome to the outfit.
Talking to reporters here, she said a new situation has been emerging where in the LTTE was looking at the state as a base in the wake of its strength being eroded in Sri Lanka following increased attacks by the military.
''This showed that the Law and order situatioon in the State is weak and the government is in a pathetic situation''.
''All political parties are ready to welcome it with folded hands, except a popular leader like me'', she charged.
Observing that this is an alarming picture for the future, she claimed that given the support of the state government, ''only God can save Tamil Nadu''.
She alleged that the stand of the state and Central governments were indifferent from what was happening.
Ms Jayalalithaa, who is also the leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, said while the state government on the one hand warned that stringent action would be taken against those supporting the banned outfit, on the other hand, pro-LTTE rallies were being permitted in the state.
Alleging that goods and materials were being smuggled to LTTE, Ms Jayalalithaa said she would not call such clandestine activities as smuggling, which she said was euphemism for supply of materials and commodities to the Lankan tigers.
Referring to National Security Advisor M K Naryanan's remarks that there was no LTTE activity in Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK chief said ''this is the sorry state of affairs. People holding responsible positions in the government are trying to deceive the people, there by showing scant respect for the maintenance of law and order''.
