Four militants involved in Shingar blast arrested

Ludhiana, Dec 30 (UNI) Punjab police today said it had arrested four militants with about 5 kg RDX and other explosive materials, who were involved in the Shingar Cinema blast in the city and were planning more explosions during the New year.

Punjab police chief, DGP N P S Aulakh disclosed in a press conference here the terrorists responsible for the Cinema blast in which six people were killed and 37 others injured, have been identified as Gurpreet Singh of Mandi Mullanpur, Palvinder Singh of Jagraon, Sandeep Singh of Sudhar and Ravinder Singh 'Rinku' of Ludhiana.

According to Mr Aulakh, on a tip-off that Gurpreet and his other associates were holding a secret meeting where they were planning to explode bombs on the New Year day, special teams were sent last night to track and arrest these persons.

The police succeeded in nabbing them from different places in the city along with a large amount of arms, explosive materials and other accessories.

On their interrogation, their leader Gurpreet Singh 'Khalsa' revealed that he was trained for terrorist activities in Pakistan last year and had come back to recruit and train local youths for the same.

He held training sessions in bomb making with local recruits in Garhi Mansowal, a hilly secluded place, and used to hide the RDX and other blast material there.

About 2 kg RDX was recovered from Gurpreet, along with a piece of plugged pipe of 9 inch in diametre, one Detonator, one Battery, electric wire and one country-made pistol with 4 cartridges.

Sandeep Singh Alias Harry was arrested with 2 Kg of RDX, A piece of 16 inch pipe plugged from both the sides, One Detonator, One Battery, electric wire, one .22 bore pistol with 5 cartrdiges and a scooter.

Palwinder Singh was nabbed with 500 Gms RDX, similar pipe, one detonator, one battery 9 Volt Marka HW, nut bolt.

Ravinder Singh 'Rinku' was nabbed with 500 gm RDX.

Earlier, about 4 kg RDX, along with other accessories, was recovered by Ludhiana Police (City) on September 2 this year from a car near Mullanpur Daka.

Sanjeev Kalra IGP, Jalandhar Zone, Jalandhar, Ishwar Singh, IPS, DIG, Ludhiana Range, Ludhiana and R K Jaiswal, IPS, SSP, Ludhiana were deputed to investigate the case, the police chief said.
