Agartala, Dec 30 (UNI) The Tripura police have detained 20 Bangladeshi nationals from different locations in the capital town during the past 24 hours.

Police said here today that extensive operations were launched across the state as part of the security measures following the report of Al-Qaida and HuJI activists movements in Bangladesh and the bordering states of the country.

All the detainees were the residents of the adjacent areas of Bangladesh with Tripura but their purpose of visit was not yet ascertained and investigation was still on, police added.

The Union Home Ministry has sounded red alert across the country following the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, while paramilitary forces, including the BSF, were asked to enhance the security in the sensitive locations of the state.

''Operations have been launched against the anti-national forces in the state,'' Superintendent of Police (Operations) Nepal Das said.
