Irate workers set fire to industrial units

Sambalpur, Dec 29 (UNI) Property worth crores of rupees were damaged after irate mob ransacked two industrial units and set them on fire at Talabira and Thelkuli about 40 km from here.

The first event took place at Talabira, a captive coal mine of Hindalco late last night, after some security guards attacked one Tapi Meher and two of his brothers suspecting them to be thieves.

All the three were admitted to VSS medical college and hospital Burla.

Soon after the news spread, irate villagers attacked the people who were present and set fire to offices and vehicles same night. The situation was brought under control after the police intervenion.

In the second incident, workers of Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd at Thelkuli damaged the vhicles, beat officers whom they found and set fire to important units and security office among others in the plant this morning.

The problem arose after a worker got crushed and succumbed to his injuries inside the premises.

Police forces were deployed to prevent reoccurence of untoward incident.
