Kolkata, Dec 29 (UNI) Bangiya Christiya Pariseba today condemned attack on churches and the Christian community in Kandhamal district of Orissa and urged its Chief Minister Naveen Pattanaik to ensure their safety and security.

In a statement to the Orissa Chief Minister, Herod Mullick, State Secretary of the Pariseba, said, ''We condemn the acts of violence and inaction of your government for not taking preventive measures.'' ''These incidents would not have taken place at all if the government and the administration had been sincere in their efforts to protect the Christian community in the area, in particular, and the state, in general,'' he stated and added, ''The anti-church activities in terms of organising sectarian hate campaigns and fanaticism against the church and the Christian community by the Sangh Parivar in Orissa are not new.'' The statement further alleged that the government and the concerned departments were well aware of communal activities of the Parivar and yet remained passive, while the Sangh Parivar took out processions chanting slogans against the Christian community.
