Union Home Ministry to reduce security contingent in Tripura

Agartala, Dec 28 (UNI) The Union Home Ministry has decided to reduce the Central Paramilitary forces for the ensuing Tripura Assembly Elections to be held in February on the recommendations of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

State Election department officials said here today that the Union Home Ministry had planned to send about 140 companies of Central Paramilitary forces during the elections after reviewing the law and order situation of the state and internal security system with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

As many as 176 companies of the Central forces were deployed in the previous elections and the state election machinery had demanded 200 companies of Central forces for the election.

Meanwhile, ECI observers might visit the state once again before the publication of the final voters' list to check the poll preparations, the officials added.
