Rupee ends flat at 39.41per USD

Mumbai, Dec 28: The Rupee today ended flat against the US Dollar at 39.41/42 from its previous close amid choppy trade in the market on weak global cues. The partially convertible Indian currency traded in a tight range band of 39.42 and 39.47 per dollar in less active interbank foreign exchange (Forex) market, following the assassination of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto that triggered geo-political worries in the Asian region, dealers said.

European, Asian as well as US Markets were on a slow movement due to the same concern. Indian equity market ended marginally lower amid choppy trading sessions, as the inflows were less today, dealers added. The six-month forward premium closed marginally lower at 1.69 (1.83) per cent, while annualized premium ended at 1.27 (1.35) per cent.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India fixed reference rate for the US dollar at Rs.39.44 as compared to the previous day's rate of Rs.39.43 per dollar today.

The Rupee traded weak against other major world currencies today.

The Indian unit ended weak at 57.86/87 (57.14/15) against the Euro, while it closed at 78.71/72 (78.37/38) per unit against Pound Sterling. Against Japanese Yen, rupee ended at 34.88/89 (34.45/46) per hundred units.
