Railway Ministry suspends Samjahuta and Thar Express
New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) The Railway Ministry today announced that it had suspended the operation of Samjhauta Express and Thar Express -- the two trains connecting India and Pakistan -- on account of security considerations following the political turmoil in Pakistan.
In a statement, the ministry said the two trains had been suspended with immediate effect on account of ''security considerations'' in the wake of Pakistan People's Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto's assassination in Rawalpindi yesterday.
''The 4001/4002 Delhi-Attari Link Express, 4607/4608 Samjhauta Express, 405/406 Munabao-Khokrapar Thar Express and 4889/4890 Jodhpur-Munabao-Jodhpur Link Express have been cancelled with immediate effect until further notice,'' the ministry said.
It said the Pakistan Railways had also been informed about the decision.
