Puducherry, Dec 28: The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) proposed to launch a national basketball league in October 2008, according to BFI Secretary General Harish Sharma.
In a chat with newspersons on the sidelines of the 58th senior national basketball championship here last evening, he said the top six finishers of the championship would compete in the league. The teams would be permitted to have two guest players, either locals or foreigners.
The league would be conducted for a month in two or three venues, Mr Sharma said, adding that presently it would be only for men and in due course, a similar league for women would be introduced.
He said the 59th senior national basketball championship would be held at Surat and the BFI had bid to host the 2010 FIBA commonwealth basketball championship.
