Chennai, Dec 27 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government is expected to seek an assistance of Rs 1,510 crore from the Centre to undertake flood relief works in the State.

The Revenue Administration, which was asked to assess the extent of damage after the incessant rains played havoc, recommended that the State could approach the Centre for a total assistance of Rs 1510.87 crore to take up relief works.

Revenue Administration Commissioner Sakthikanta Doss, after compiling the reports about the extent of damage from district Collectors, presented a report to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the Secretariat today.

The Chief Minister, after visiting rain-hit areas last week, had said the State Government would write to the Centre after assessing the extent of damage and directed the Revenue Administration to assess the damage.

The rains had claimed the lives of over 70 people, devastated paddy crops in thousands of acres, besides causing extensive damage to roads, culverts, bridges and houses.
