Mahindra to face Dempo in I-league tomorrow

By Staff

Margao, Dec 27 (UNI) Flying high with confidence, defending champions Dempo are looking forward to snatch full points when they clash against formidable Mahindra United Mumbai in their 8th round ONGC I-league match to be played here at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda tomorrow.

Dempo, currently topping the table with 17 points from five wins and two drawn matches, has given a commendable performance so far slamming in 14 goals and conceding only three.

Dempo's big names like Nigerian strikers Ranty Martins and Edeh Chidi have four goals each to their names while Brazilian Medio Robert Mendes Silva (Beto) also figures in the goal scoring list with three goals. All the three combine well during the game as was visible in the last matches. Nichlau Borgues will also provide big support to the trio.

Mahindra placed 4th in the league table with 10 points from 2 wins, 4 draws and a defeat have to tone up their game. Their forward and midfield have to combine well and bang on the target to achieve results for catching the table toppers to remain in contention.

Mahindra should also be wary of the fact that Dempo have conceded only three goals, this also speaks about their strong defence line led by Valerian Rebello, Mahesh Gawali and Sameer Naik.

Mahindra Coach Derreck Pereira said his main worry is that though the boys are playing well, the forward line is still lacking in the sting. They could not convert the chances into the goals, he added.

Key defender Bello Rasak, who received a red card against East Bengal in the last match, will not play tomorrow against Dempo.

The boys are in an upbeat mood after defeating East Bengal by 2-1 in the last match and we to hope put up a similar performance against Dempo, Mr Derrick added.

As usual, Mahindra will depend heavily on their Ghaninan ace striker Yusif Yakubu, Djouhue Pierre, Andrew Menshah, Stevan Dias and Mohd Rafi to deliver the goods.

Dempo coach Armanao Colaco said that every opponent is a strong team. Mahindra is a good team with two wins, one against East Bengal in the last match. Our team will do all for a win to keep the team's unbeaten race intact, he added.

Defender John Dias, who met with an accident recently, will not play tomorrow, Mr Colaco added.
