Sugar cane farmers lay siege to DC office
Mysore, Dec 26 (UNI) Sugar cane farmers from Chamarajanagara and Mysore today laid siege to the office of Deputy Commissioner, demanding fulfilment of their long pending demands.
Hundreds of farmers, under the banner 'Sugar Cane Raitha Rakshana Samithi' led by its President Kurabur Shanthakumar staged a dharna in front of the office.
Later, addressing the agitators, Mr Shanthakumar said the district administrations of both Mysore and Chamarjanagara should invite all the sugar factory owners for a meeting and discuss the sugar cane pricing issue.
He said the government should release Rs 25,000 per hectare for the sugar cane growers immediately.
Following an assurance from Deputy Commissioner N S Channappa Gowda that a meeting would be convened to discuss the issue with the sugar factory owners, the agitators called off the siege.
UNI
