Ranchi, Dec 26 (UNI) The Jharkhand Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (JPMCC) today burnt BJP's effigy here demanding action against government officials and BJP workers allegedly involved in assault of a tribal woman in Dumka.

JPMCC president Pratibha Pandey said beating a tribal woman by party activists was shameful and a brutal act.

The woman, Neelam Hembrom, was allegedly beaten up by BJP activists in Dumka on Sunday while the party was holding a demonstration near the deputy commissioner's office.

Ms Pandey said the incident occurred near the offices of senior district authorities when the victim had reminded the local BJP MLA of providing her a unit of Indira Awas.

The role of officials should be inquired, Ms Pandey demanded.

A delegation comprising JPMCC activists would meet Chief Minister Madhu Koda and the chairperson of state women commission tomorrow.

The party would also launch a statewide agitation if the government fails to take action against culprits, the JPMCC leader asserted.
