IAF-J-K govt to begin air service for Kargil

Jammu, Dec 26 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government in collaboration with the Indian Air Force (IAF) will launch an air service between Jammu and Kargil as a New year bonanza from January 1.

This was decided in a meeting chaired by Minister for Social Welfare and MLA Kargil Haji Nissar Ali here today.

''As a new year bonanza, Kargilites would have new air service from January 1, with the state government and the Indian Air Force (IAF), which have decided to commence weekly air service of AN-32 courier and passenger service from Jammu to Kargil and vice versa,'' Mr Ali said.

''The tickets shall be issued from Kargil House, Jammu 48 hours before the time of the flight,'' he said, adding the Airport Authority Director assured all possible support in respect of issuing passes to the staff and other persons concerned.

Mr Ali said it was a significant event for Kargilites and the commencement of this service would go a long way in easing out the climatic hurdles that hitherto had come in way for people of Kargil who wanted to travel during the winter season.
