Chandigarh, Dec 26 (UNI) A Centre for Rehabilitation of Elephants will be set up at Kot village in Yamunanagar district of Haryana over an area of 20 acres.

Stating this here today, a spokesman for the Haryana Forests Department said that only those elephants would be rehabilitated at the centre which had been kept illegally by the people.

He said Haryana Minister of State for Forests and Tourism Kiran Choudhry would lay the foundation stone of this centre on December 28 and it would be completed by March next.

He said during the first phase of the project, eight sheds would be constructed for elephants and thereafter their number would be increased depending on the requirement.

The centre would have doctors and 'Mahauts' (caretakers for elephants), he said.

With a view to providing better facilities to the elephants, help of non-governmental organisation would also be sought, he added.
