Floral tributes to victims of tsunami havoc

Puducherry, Dec 26 (UNI) Floral tributes were paid in memory of those who perished in the December 26, 2004 tsunami on the third anniversary of the calamity here today.

The fishermen of Veerampatinam led by legislator Anantaraman and former legislator Jayamurthy lit candles at the memorial statue near the coast in the village and paid floral tributes while third year students of the Bharathiyar Palkalaikoodam made a sand sculpture portraying the devastation in the calamity, on the Veerampatinam beach.

The villagers of Kanagachettikkulam and Chinnakalapet placed wreaths at the cemetry to mark the occasion.

Earlier, Puducherry Health Minister E Valsaraj along with legislators Anbazhagan and Dr M A S Subramanian observed a two- minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls at a function here.
