CPI(M), Trinamool Congress clashes leave five injured

Bolpur, West Bengal, Dec 26 (UNI) At least five people were injured in clashes between supporters of CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress at Bashpara under Nanur block in Birbhum district today.

Bolpur's Sub-divisional Police Officer Debashis Dhar said police had to use batons and lob teargas shells to quell the clashing groups, which entered in sporadic clashes with bombs and guns since morning.

One with bullet injuries was taken to Burdhaman Medical College and Hospital and four others, who sustained bomb wounds, were taken to Bolpur hospital, he said.

Mr Dhar, who led a combat force to chase the clashing mobs, further said bombs and guns were used at random in the fight.

Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondol accsued the CPI(M) of attacking them as verdict in the Suchpur massacre, slated for January 14, was nearing.

Mondol alleged that the attacks on them were pre-meditated by combined force of CPI(M) cadres and policemen. He alleged that police fired about eighteen rounds, an alleagtion which the SDPO has been deenying.

CPI(M)'s Nanur zonal committee secretary Hashibul Rahman charged the Trinamool Congress supporters, who attacked them with bombs and guns, for creating chaos among the local people.
