Fatehabad, Dec 25 (UNI) Tension has mounted at village Shakarpura, bordering Punjab after a confrontation between functionaries of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkaar Sabha and followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda over holding 'akhand path' at the residence of a Dera follower.
A heavy police force has today rushed to the village to avoid the situation taking an ugly turn and village elders were trying to sort out the matter through negotiations.
According to official sources, the village sarpanch, Bal Kishan Kamboj, who is a follower of Dera Sacha Sauda, organised 'akhand path' of Guru Granth Sahib at his residence every year. Members of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkaar Sabha reached the village and objected to the ceremony.
They asked the village sarpanch to either join the Sikhism fold by accepting 'siropa' or return the 'Guru Granth Sahib' to the village gurdwara. The villagers, who had earlier resolved not to allow any outside interference in the religious matters, have also come out in support of the sarpanch.
Members of the Satkaar Sabha have threatened to take away the holy scripture forcibly in case the sarpanch did not accept their condition.
Senior police and administrative officers from Tohana town have reached the village even as village elders have been trying to find a way out by trying to convince the sarpanch to organise the 'bhog' ceremony of the 'akhand path' slated for tomorrow at the gurdwara instead of his residence.
