TRAI issues consultation paper for telephone directory

New Delhi, Dec 24 (UNI) Telecom Regulatory of Authority (TRAI) today released a consultation paper for publication of integrated telephone directory for fixed line phones and national integrated directory enquiry service for fixed and mobile connections.

''Directory services are largely unavailable today for fixed line telephones and mobile services provided by the private operators,'' TRAI said in a statement.

Earlier, the telecom watchdog TRAI had submitted its recommendations to government for integrated directory services which is required in the present multi-operator scenario, it added.

The main issue raised in the consultation paper relate to various alternatives for publishing the directory for fixed line telephones.

It also highlights the guidelines including format of directory, pricing, time period for provision of data for directory printing, seeking opt-out option from customers.

The authority has invited all stakeholders to respond to the issued raised in the consultation paper by January 24, 2008.
