Hyderabad Sultans snatch two points from Orissa Steelers

Chandigarh, Dec 24 (UNI) Unpretentious Hyderabad Sultans just managed to garner two points as they beat Orissa Steelers by aggregate 4-3 margin after sharing two goals in the regulation period and 10 minutes of extra time proved unproductive in the Premier Hockey League tonight.

Hyderabad Sultans have so far played three matches, with an ouright 3-0 win against Sher-e-Jalanhdar and suffered their first defeat at the hands of Chandigarh Dynamos by a solitary goal.

So far they have logged five points.

Orissa Steelers have just two points from three matches. They obtained one point from Bangalore Hi-Fliers who won by 6-5 in shoot-out and today again they had to remain satisfied with one point as the match against Hyderabad Sultans was also extended to tie-breaker.

In the tie-breaker session, each of the five stroke-takers gets eight seconds to score the goal starting from the 25-yard line with a one-on-one battle with the goalkeeper.

According to rules, the team which wins in the shoot-out will be awarded two points and losers one.

However, the goals scored in the tie-breaker session are not counted for goals for and goals against.

In the shootout session, Hyderabad Sultans converted their strokes Sardar Singh, Parmod Kumar and Pawal Lakra. Deedar Singh and Chengappa muffed their chances.

For Orissa Steelers, only Korean Kim Chul and Roshan Minz were the scorers. Prabhodh Tirkey, Ajitesh Roy and Joga Singh were wayward in their tries.

Orissa Steelers forced five penalty corners but out capitalise only on the fourth in the 65th minute when Jitender Saroha converted with a drag flick for the equaliser. Steelers got penalty corners in the 25th, 28th, 64th, 65th and 71st minute.

Earlier, Hyderabad Sultans forced three penalty corners. Diwakar Ram converted the first in the 40th minute to place Hyderabad Sultans in the lead. Their penalty corners in the 53rd and 69th minute proved abortive.

Hyderabad Sultans goalkeeper Korean Oscar Tar Weme was adjudged the man of the match.
