General Rodrigues greets people on Christmas

Chandigarh, Dec 24 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator General (Retd) SF Rodrigues today extended his greetings to the people of Punjab and Chandigarh, on the the eve of joyous occasion of Christmas, the birthday of Jesus Christ.

In his message, General Rodrigues said, "India has shown the rest of the world how to live in peace and harmony despite its multi-lingual and multi-cultural identity. Our unity in diversity has acted as a cementing force, to make our nation strong and vibrant. It is, therefore, incumbent upon all of us to practice and promote the spirit of peace, love and brotherhood, which are common to all religions of the world and also essential components of a healthy and prosperous society." General Rodrigues further said, "The true spirit of Christmas reflects a dedication to help those in need, to give hope to those in despair and to focus our attention on those who need love and compassion, thus creating a caring, giving and a classless society." He acknowledged and placed on record, his appreciation for the people, especially the NGOs and philanthropists of Punjab and Chandigarh, for always responding and rising to the occasion and extending help to the needy and poor.

General Rodrigues appealed to the people to renew their commitment to the service of society and the disadvantaged.
