Fatehgarh Sahib Shaheedi Jor Mela begins

Fatehgarh Sahib, Dec 24 (UNI) The three-day annual Shaheedi Jor Mela, held in the sacred memory of Guru Gobind Singh's two younger sons Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh who were buried alive inside a brick wall here by Mughals, began today with the commencement of an Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup.

Lakhs of devotes paid their obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and Jyoti Swarup today as the opening day of Mela was observed in religious spirits.

Tomorrow, meetings will be held by almost all the political parties, for which ample security and other arrangements have been completed today.

Today Dewans were organised in all Gurdwaras and langars (community kitchen) provided by the devotees. The villagers have also set up langar on the way for the devotees coming from far off places braving the extreme cold to attend the 303rd Shaheedi Jor Mela.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has arranged a Deewan where the Sikh preachers, Ragis, Dhadi Jathas will continue to sing devotions songs, and give the accounts of Sikh history.

District Cultural Society and Punjab Public Relations Department organized staged a play "Sirhind Di Diwar".

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will inaugurate an exhibition of Khadi Board on December 25.

On the concluding day on December 26, a nagar kirtan will be taken from Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup, where the Sahibzadas were cremated.

About 10 lakh devotees were expected to pay obeisance to the great Sikh martyrs.
