Bruhanmaharashtra Mandal to celebrate 61st convention

Mumbai, Dec 24 (UNI) Bruhanmaharashtra Mandal, an organisation propagating Marathi language and culture, will organise its 61st convention here from December 25-27.

Speaking at a press conference today, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi, who is also Convenor of the Mandal, said that the Bruhanmaharashtra Mandal has worked for Marathi culture for the past 75 years and has more than 300 organisations and more than 150 lakh Marathi speaking people outside the state, under its wing.

The Bruhanmaharashtra Mandal will award artists from various fields like arts, sports, social field and literature.

Ram Shewalkar, Babasaheb Purandhare and Sadashiv Amrapurkar will be felicitated by the Mandal for their contribution to the arts and social category.

Similarly, sportsmen like Tushar Khandekar and Ashwini Tare will be awarded in the sports category along with others.

The convention, which will be organised at Ravindra Natya Mandir in Dadar, will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Power Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Union Minister Vilas Muttemwar, BJP's Maharashtra President Nitin Gadkari and Mumbai Mayor Shubha Raul will be present at the convention.
