Shillong, Dec 24 (UNI) The BJP has decided to field 21 candidates in the ensuing Assembly polls and claimed that the party would play a key role in the formation of the next government in Meghalaya.

Talking to reporters here, BJP secretary in charge of Meghalaya Kiren Rijuju said his party would fare better by fielding 21 candidates in the coming state Assembly polls and play a key role in formation of the next state government.

Meghalaya has a 60-member House.

The list of candidates would be released within a fortnight after its approval by the party's Central Election Committee, Mr Rijuju said.

''Preference will be given to those ticket aspirants who are committed to working for welfare of the party and have better prospects of winning the elections,'' the BJP MP said.

Claiming that the BJP would fare well in the ensuing elections and play an important role in forming the next state government, Mr Rijuju said the BJP's main agenda in the election campaign would be the alleged corruption and misrule of the incumbent Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.
