Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) A special police team, which arrested a 48-year-old self-styled Godman on charges of polygamy, will move a court seeking a week's custody for further questioning.
Police sources said a special team, which arrested the Godman for marrying for the third time, would file a petition before Alandur Magistrate court on December 26 seeking a week's police custody to know more about his sleazy operations.
The Godman, Palanisamy was arrested from a temple at suburban Acharapakkam yesterday and was lodged in Puzhal Central prison after he was produced before the Court.
The Godman, who was running an ashram at Velachery here, married Divya (24), a homeopathy doctor, who frequented his ashram and fled to Rishikesh with her.
Palanisamy was already married twice and had three grown-up children. Divya's parents had filed a complaint that the Godman had duped their daughter into the marriage.
But Divya contacted the police from Delhi and said the marriage was held with her full consent.
However, based on a complaint filed by Palanisamy's first wife Chandra that he had outraged the modesty of several women who visited the ashram and taken obscene pictures of them, a police team was formed to nab him.
Following this, Divya returned to the ashram and claimed that the charges levelled against the Godman were false.
