Dehradun, Dec 23 (UNI) Three persons, including two Nigerian nationals and a Mizo woman, were arrested by Uttarakhand police for duping a woman of lakhs of rupees in the name of lottery prize.
DIG (Garhwal Range) Ashok Kumar told mediapersons here today that Nigerians Symon Dunalz and Belive along with Christina, resident of Mizoram, were arrested from Tapovan Tiraha, Rishikesh of this district yesterday for duping Rs 21 lakhs, from one Swati Maindola, working in finance department of hotel Ananda, Narendra Nagar of Tehri district.
The DIG said Ms Swati received an email in her ID from mailnationaldesk@ eartlinknet, stating that she had won 2,50,000 pound in a lottery. She was later contacted by one Vincent Clark on her mobile phone and made to pay the amount in different bank accounts of ICICI banks on different occasions on the pretext that amount was to be cleared from British Revenue in the first instance and second time citing that the lottery amount was to be cleared from British anti Terrorist Department, and that she would be paid her lottery amount in 24 hours.
Acting on the FIR lodged by the victim, joint team of Uttarakhand STF team and Tehri Police nabbed the threesome with the help of Cyber Crime expert and electronics Surveillance.
The DIG said police recovered a bundle of fake dollars, Laptop, fake passports, advanced mobile phones from them.
The probe revealed that a gang of five Nigerians, headed by Vincent Clark, was active in similar fraudulent acts through internet in the country.
Police have launched a hunt for gang leader, Dr George and David Williams. ''Police have released Look Out Circular (LOC) against all the three,'' DIG disclosed. He also announced award of Rs 20,000 for investigation team. ''Further investigation was on in the matter and would also register case against the ICICI bank,'' DIG added.
