Pak would eliminate extremism with renewed vigour: Menon

Islamabad, Dec 23 (UNI) Terming the condemnation of Charsada blast from the UNSC, OIC, Afghan government and the US ''very important'', Pakistan has stated that the international community's support has strengthened the country's resolve to continue its fight against terrorism with renewed vigour.

Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A Menon asked the world community to extend economic and moral support to the country.

Appreciating the US resolve that Pakistan's aid would not be restricted, he yesterday said, ''It is happy to note that the funding for Pakistan was being released soon by the US on the basis of 2003 agreement between US President George Bush and his Pakistani counterpart Pervez Musharraf.'' He claimed that Pakistan was fighting the war on terror as it suited the national interest. It was imperative to move from the extremism to the moderate democratic system, The Associated Press of Pakistan quoted him as saying.

Mr Menon condemned dastardly suicide attack inside a mosque in Sherpao village near Charsadda, NWFP on Friday and offered condolence to the families of those killed.

He pledged ensuring peaceful environment to the people as well as leaders busy in election campaign, saying it was incumbent upon the government to ensure protection of lives and property of the people.

He urged the people, candidates and political parties to pinpoint any foul play and urged the political parties to cooperate with the government in maintaining law and order in the country.
