Madurai, Dec 23 (UNI) The National Commission for Women (NCW) criticised the Tamil Nadu police for their lethargic attitude in registering cases related to women harassment in the State.
Talking to newspersons here last night, NCW member Nirmala Venkatesh alleged that most of the complaints the Commission received was against Tamil Nadu police.
She said even as the Centre had recommended the institution of a 'Womens Desk' in all police stations, Tamil Nadu had failed to do so.
However, she praised Tamil Nadu Government for appointing the most number of women police personnel in the State.
Referring to the recent victim of dowry harassment Ms Jenita, a native of Tiruchirapalli, who was allegedly pushed out of a speeding car by her husband and his family in the United States, she said the NCW had recommended certain rules and regulations to the Government for protecting women from harassment.
