Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, Dec 23 (UNI) Minister of State for Environment and Forests Namo Narayan Meena today lambasted the Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje for giving false hopes to the Gujjars on their demand for Scheduled Tribe status and demanded her to issue an order that the community was not recognised under the ST criteria.

On the sidelines of the foundation laying ceremony of the Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History here, Mr Meena told UNI, ''Vasundhra Raje has played politics with the Gujjars by sending the recommendations of the Justice Chopra Committee to the Union government and passed the buck onto the Centre. The centre never asked the state government to form the high-level committee on the matter in the first place. Above all, the Committee has refused to recognise the community as ST.'' He vehemently demanded that the Rajsthan Chief Minister should apologise to the Gujjar community for giving them false hopes.

On December 18, the committee headed by Justice Jasraj Chopra committee headed by Justice Jasraj Chopra rejected the Gujjars' demand but suggested a special package to members of the community living in under-developed and remote areas of the state. The BJP government in the state had subsequently forwarded the report to the Centre without any comment or recommendation of its own.
