Maharashtra girls dominate in National School Games tennis

Mumbai, Dec 23 (UNI) Maharashtra girls continued their march towards the summit, booking their spots in the team championship finals of the three age categories of the Rs 2 lakh Prize Money, HDIL National School Games Tennis Tournament at the tennis courts of the Hansraj Morarjee Public School here today.

The Maharashtra girls made the finals of the under-19, under-17 and under-14 age groups.

The Maharashtra boys, in comparison, fared poorly, only managing to enter the finals in the boys under-14 category, the higher age groups seeing teams from AP, Delhi, Gujarat and Assam gain the upperhand.

In the girls under-19 semi-finals, Maharashtra outplayed Kerala 2-0 to set up a title clash with AP, while in the girls under-17 age group they beat AP 2-0 to meet Delhi in the final. In the girl under-14 final, Maharashtra will take on Delhi after routing MP 2-0.

In the 2nd round of the singles matches, top seed Vishal Passi of Maharashtra had an easy outing against Assam's Siddhant Deka wining 6-1. Also advancing with ease was his statemate Marth Shah with an identical victory against Haryana's Vikas.
